The world's last Himalayan Buddhist kingdom — Tiger's Nest monastery, sacred dzongs, vibrant festivals & pristine mountain landscapes. Tailor-made Bhutan holidays for European travellers.

Bhutan Holidays from Europe — The Kingdom of Happiness

Bhutan is the world's only carbon-negative country and measures success in Gross National Happiness — not GDP. This tiny Himalayan kingdom has no traffic lights, no McDonald's and no mass tourism. Only around 300,000 visitors are allowed each year, making it one of the most exclusive and authentic travel experiences on earth. Gracious Summit arranges fully managed Bhutan tour packages from Portugal and Europe, including the mandatory government-approved guide, all permits, accommodation and visa.

Bhutan Travel FAQ

Everything European travellers ask us before booking a Bhutan tour.

Can I visit Bhutan independently or do I need a guided tour?

All foreign tourists must visit Bhutan through a licensed operator with a certified guide. Gracious Summit partners with Bhutan-licensed operators to organise fully guided tours from Portugal, handling the Sustainable Development Fee, visa and all logistics.

What is the Bhutan Sustainable Development Fee?

The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a mandatory charge of USD 100 per person per night for international visitors. It funds free healthcare, education and Bhutan's carbon-neutral infrastructure. Gracious Summit includes the SDF in all Bhutan package prices.

What is the best time to visit Bhutan from Europe?

Spring (March–May) for rhododendron blooms and the Paro Tsechu festival; Autumn (September–November) for clear mountain views and the Thimphu Tsechu festival. Both seasons offer superb trekking conditions.

How difficult is the Tiger's Nest monastery trek?

A moderate 4–5 hour return hike ascending ~900 m. The trail is well-maintained with rest stops and most travellers of all ages complete it. Guides set a comfortable pace; mule-back options are available for part of the ascent.

How many days is recommended for a Bhutan tour?

Minimum 5–7 days covers Paro, Thimphu and Tiger's Nest. For Punakha Dzong and the Haa Valley, allow 10–12 days. All itineraries are customised for European travellers departing from Portugal.

Can I combine Bhutan with Nepal in one trip from Europe?

Yes — our Bhutan + Nepal combined tour (16 days) is very popular. It covers Kathmandu, Everest trekking and Paro-Thimphu cultural highlights. Gracious Summit handles all combined logistics from Portugal.
