The Sustainable Development Fee (SDF) is a mandatory charge of USD 100 per person per night for international visitors. It funds free healthcare, education and Bhutan's carbon-neutral infrastructure. Gracious Summit includes the SDF in all Bhutan package prices.
Spring (March–May) for rhododendron blooms and the Paro Tsechu festival; Autumn (September–November) for clear mountain views and the Thimphu Tsechu festival. Both seasons offer superb trekking conditions.
A moderate 4–5 hour return hike ascending ~900 m. The trail is well-maintained with rest stops and most travellers of all ages complete it. Guides set a comfortable pace; mule-back options are available for part of the ascent.
Minimum 5–7 days covers Paro, Thimphu and Tiger's Nest. For Punakha Dzong and the Haa Valley, allow 10–12 days. All itineraries are customised for European travellers departing from Portugal.
